Ageing and Adaptation

Pages under construction

The ageing process affects all aspects of cellular and organismal biology, and no single molecular mechanism is accepted to be ‘the cause of ageing’. Our research work in ageing therefore spans and connects a broad range of biological systems:

  •    Genome stability
  •    Epigenetics
  •    Gene expression
  •    Metabolism
  •    Environmental adaptation

We apply classic molecular and genetic methods combined with state-of-the art sequencing and bioinformatic approaches to rapidly raise and test hypotheses about ageing and adaptation. Our research uses model systems from yeast to mice and human cells, allowing us to perform and translate basic molecular research.

We are also fascinated by genetic adaptation to the environment – how do beneficial mutations emerge? We are studying how fungal pathogens have subverted the mechanisms that promote ageing in us to achieve rapid adaptation and drug resistance.
